Amy Rodgers

Amy founded radio show and club night Queer History of Dance Music in 2018. In 2019 the show was headhunted for a residency on Clyde Built Radio by station founder, Andrew Thomson of Huntleys & Palmers. In 2020 Amy founded Good Clean Fun, an alcohol and substance free club night which strips modern dance culture of its excess. Amy holds a residency at this night, as well as playing around Glasgow, including Berkeley Suite, Melting Pot, La Cheetah (for David Barbarossa’s ‘Keep On’), Optimo, and further afield including Giles Peterson’s We Out Here festival. Amy enjoys connecting the dots between genres in their sets – playing anything that feels good to move to.

Butho the Warrior

Nqgabutho Mpofu also known as ButhoTheWarrior is a Zimbabwe born Dj living in Glasgow. He was born in Bulawayo the city of Kings & Queens which is the cultural arts hub of Zimbabwe. His upbringing in the city which encouraged freedom of expression while also spending most weekends and holidays in the slow-paced life of the countryside has influenced everything from his music taste to good clothing style. According to him this part of his life also encouraged him to have a belief in fluidity and letting things be.

He first moved to Scotland in 2010 and stayed for three years moving to Somerset in 2013. Whilst there he was studying media he was also involved in throwing illegal barn parties and field parties which exposed him to electronic music. Somerset being very close to Bristol which has an established rave culture or scene meant that it was easy for him to take part, he attended clubs such as Motion, Half Moon and Lakota and this also allowed him to broaden his musical spectrum. The five years spent in Somerset were mostly spent travelling around the country attending gigs and festivals and making industry contacts.

He moved back to Scotland in 2018 and started Jaiva that same year which is when he picked the name ButhoTheWarrior. The name Butho is a short form of his first name Nqgabutho, when shortened the name changes meaning and means warrior hence the stage name ButhoTheWarrior. The first Jaiva party was held in 2018 and Jaiva has grown together with the vision he has for it. He had a residency in The Flying Duck before lockdown and currently has one for Clyde Built Radio and also Radio Buena Vida which he plays for on a monthly basis. There have been multiple live streams under Jaiva such as the Black history month stream and New Years Eve Sub club stream with acts from Nightwave, Jasper James, Shakara, Optimistic Soul and more. ButhoTheWarrior plays all strains of House music, Jazz, Psychedelic, Disco, Electronic and African music. His sets are eclectic and broad in their music selection and allows for unique edits of songs to be heard in every set either done live or pre edited often thought provocative to current social injustices.
