Good Clean Fun //

About us

Good Clean Fun is an alcohol and substance-free party put on by a small group of sober pals who initially wanted to provide a quality clubbing space for people in recovery, or for those who are trying to cut down.

The party also attracts people beyond the recovery community. This is welcomed; we are portraying substance-free partying as not merely a consolation prize for people who cannot go to standard club nights or who cannot drink, but rather as a desirable and positive alternative.

Good Clean Fun is a totally clean space, but anyone who is curious about the party and about developing a healthier relationship to alcohol and drugs is very welcome.

Our parties are attended by folk of all genders, sexualities, religions and ethnicities etc. It’s an open invitation event but has the feel of a house party.

“I stopped drinking a few years ago and the thought of having to say goodbye to nightlife culture and friends made this challenging. I was determined to still go out once I got sober but I had to force myself and found it annoying being around alcohol and drugs when I was in the the clubs. Also, I would feel lonely at times as it felt like everyone else was on another level.

Through my work at Clyde Built Radio and involvement in recovery support groups, I began to sense that this wasn’t just a feeling that was unique to me. I noticed there was a general need within the music community in Glasgow for club nights that were also a clean space. And also, a general need in the recovery community for clean spaces that were less formal and more about having fun with your pals.

And so, in December 2021, I put on the first Good Clean Fun up at Garnethill Community Centre. It ended up getting a good response and some funding and this gave me encouragement to do more.”

Amy Rodgers
Founder, Resident DJ & Creative Director

We currently put on intimate monthly parties at our spiritual home Garnethill Community Centre (capacity 100 – 150).

So far, we have had a couple of summer rooftop parties in the Refuweegee Headquarters and NYE was a massive party at Strange Field on French Street (200+ capacity).

Going forward this year we’ve got some exciting pop-up events in different locations and plan to expand outside Glasgow and even further afield!

The music is open-minded. Our resident DJ and guests will play anything that is good to move to but tends to go for a groovier, spiritual, jazz and melodic sound with lots of percussion.

We have tailored the rest of the party around this sound to create an upbeat yet calm and spiritual atmosphere. The spaces we use are open and airy, with lots of space to dance, relax, socialise and eat. We’re not trying to over-stimulate. We have vintage floor lamps, festoon lights and candles throughout the party for an ambient, house party feel. We have bean bags and floor cushions to rest the dancing legs and other seating options.

Gemma first got into the music scene in Glasgow back in 2008, and moved to London to study at Point Blank music college in 2009. She fell into the hospitality industry down there, working her way up to management within Young's Brewery. When she moved back up to Glasgow in 2014, she continued in the hospitality industry but within the marketing sector and then went on to start Calfrey Creative, a Digital Marketing & Web Design agency in 2016.

Gemma has been musical from a young age, playing piano and flute, and also teaching piano. It wasn't until she got into recovery that she rediscovered the love for music and DJing.
