March Party Re-Cap

Big love to everyone who attended and helped out at the party at Garnethill Multi-Cultural Centre on Saturday there - we had a ball!

We’ve been thinking about ideas to help people relax and loosen up before the party. A few months ago we introduced a ‘meditation’ hour near the start of the night as an opportunity to explore different ways (including sound baths, breathwork sessions, and guided meditations). We’ve had a good response from those so far and appreciate people coming down at the start to give it a go. These sorts of meditative techniques really work for me once I let go a little, and seeing others at the party get into it has been helping me to do just that.

For March’s meditation hour, we had Gary Lawson (who also happens to be our Operations Manager as well as Reiki master and founder of At Ease Guided Meditations). The energy in the room was slowly built with Gary guiding us through an hour-long meditation with myself providing the soundtrack to his words. This is pretty much improvised between Gary and I, which has been a lot of fun. Pleased to say that by 6 pm we had everyone groovin’. How lovely to see such a busy and energetic dance floor right at the start of a party 🙂

You can do more guided meditations with Gary at The Space on London Road from time to time. More info on his Instagram here (the next one is April 13th, 2024).

For food, we welcomed back artist and chef, Reed Hexamer (@begonia.maculata). We want the food at our nights to be excellent, healthy, and inexpensive and we have been working with Reed to figure out a way to do this. They cooked up a beautiful Jamaican Jerk Curry for our NYE party at French Street last year, which went down a treat. And this time round they had a bunch of us in the kitchen on Saturday morning, folding up empanadas with the chicken tinga and black bean and cheese fillings that had been cooked up the night before. The final product was a perfect hand-sized snack for eating while you have a dance (empanada emoji).

Reed founded the Feed The People Bedstuy in 2020 in New York City, which is a mutual aid community project that provides 150-300 free meals weekly for food shares, jail support, teach-ins, and union actions, using food that would otherwise be discarded. It runs on the principles of solidarity over charity and delicious food as a human right. You can find more information on donating or getting involved at @feedthepeople_bedstuy.

I had a lot of fun DJing for everyone as always. As a DJ the main thing I’m really after is an engaged and open-minded crowd to play to. It feels like this is what is happening on the Good Clean Fun dance floor and I’m dead grateful to everyone who comes along and gives their energy to it all. It was also great to see folk feeling comfortable enough to take breaks and have a proper lounge around on the bean bags and big floor cushions.

A couple of tracks I remember playing below in case anyone wants to re-listen or learn more about them. A few of them appear on my latest Clyde Built Radio promo mix too…

Denroy Morgan – Happy Feeling

We are a feel-good party and this boogie/disco/reggae track from Jamaican-born American artist Denroy Morgan captures the atmosphere pretty well. I smile so much when it’s on (and I’m even smiling now as I write this)!

Jamie 3:26 & Cratebug – Hit It ‘n’ Quit It

Hot and sweaty song for when the energy was at its peak and the sweat was dripping from the windows. This one got pretty feral!
