IMAGINING SCOTLAND WITH LESS BOOZE at Glasgow Caledonian University’s Research Centre for Health (ReaCH).
Running a party that is both accessible and sustainable is tricky business, but we’ve been lucky enough to have ongoing support from several people and organisations to help make Good Clean Fun a reality. We have been working closely with Professor Carol Emslie and Beth Meadows who are both researching drinking culture and nightlife in Scotland.
A few weeks ago we were invited to “IMAGINING SCOTLAND WITH LESS BOOZE” an event held at Glasgow Caledonian University by Carol.
At the event, academics Beth Meadows, Karen Maxwell, and Professor Carol Emslie discussed why it is so difficult to drink less in Scotland and whether our drinking culture really can be transformed. They also explored alcohol-free clubbing (with a shout-out to Good Clean Fun), alcohol social media campaigns, and the value of public discussions around drinking.
Scottish culture beyond alcohol is in its early days, but it is growing. It’s great to see this movement being tracked and explored in academia and elsewhere. Also, very inspiring is to see academics reaching out across their discipline to professionals and practitioners in other fields to help inform their research. And in turn, their research is helping inform the way we run and grow Good Clean Fun. Exciting times ahead!
It was a great event to attend and DJ at and we are looking forward to further collaboration down the line.

Recovery Connects: Sunday 30th June
Thanks and love to all the dancers who came through for the end-of-May party. We’re taking a short break from parties over the summer and will be back on the 30th of August with a run of monthly nights running up to New Year’s…
If you can’t wait until then, our resident DJ Amy Rodgers will be playing at Recovery Connects on Sunday 30th June 2024 at the Queen’s Park Bandstand in the Southside of Glasgow. Good Clean Fun similarly aims to connect Glasgow’s recovery community and its electronic music scene, so we’re really excited to see the two communities come together for this event!
The event is free, family-friendly and takes place from 12pm – 6pm. This year’s lineup includes Creation Records’ Alan McGee, Shambolics, Paul Byrne, Local Authority & Hazy Sundays.
As well as Amy’s set, we’ll be there with our Giant Pink Teapot (created by artist Katie Greenville) and free shots of You + I Kombucha, Luscome Ginger Beer and home-made fudge.
See you on Sunday!
